Dev/IDE setup advice

    Hello,

    I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for the following. I'll be using FuelPHP to develop a html5 web application (using AngularJS); The IDE is Netbeans 7.2 on Win 7 64-bit. I'll be running a VMware with Ubuntu 11.04 and use the WinSCP sync option to keep the files up to date. In such a setup, would you recommend using the oil utility on the vm to set up and manage the project, or will I be better off without using oil?

    I highly suggest taking a look at sublime text 2. Netbeans is a tad overkill for a php site (as it is for compiling java). Sublime text 2 is free and is much, much, much more malleable (customizable) than net beans in that respect.

    Also I highly recommend always using oil as it is a huge benefit and time saver in FuelPHP

    Instead of using SCP, actually you can create a SAMBA folder and map it to your windows. then you can save the file directly.

    If you are good in Git, it will help you much more better.

    Sublime Text 2 may be evaluated for free, but a license must be purchased for continued use.

    +1 for Sublime
    Running NetBeans in virtualized environment is not the best idea, only if you have enough resources.

    I don't know whether VMWare can, but Virtualbox can create shared folders which is visible for the guest OS.

    For VMWare, you have to setup the Samba Server yourself.
