Poll: What PHP framework are you using?
  • I am currently conducting research for my final year project I would be grateful if you filled out a 1 question in the link below. It will only take 5 seconds to complete! http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/TJWQZBH Thanks in advance!
  • Ok, so you did post this in every framework's forum. ;)

Yep, I have no preference and I figured the best method to get results is to post it in every official forum where the users I'm looking for might be. Thats a lot of posting!
  • The outcome of any such poll is pretty useless. It can tell you a bit about popularity but that's about it. We actually came up 1st in one such poll about a month after our first beta, that was one that allowed down & up-voting and the truth probably was that we had no haters but a fair share of enthousiasts.

It is true it wont tell you much but I'm hoping the popularity should correlate to the strength of community support each framework has.
  • Enthousiasm and popularity are better evaluated looking at forums, IRC channels and repository stats. Especially the latter's contributors, forkers and followers would be far more meaningful indicators of a framework's strength & community support than any poll could ever be.

I'll look into that too but something to consider is it does not account for changes in developer choices. For example say ZF forum has huge stats, it does not necessarily mean its still popular, all it shows is it was once popular but is not necessarily still the developers framework of choice. Seeing as technology is always changing this is something to account for. I could however record the number of active users in each official forum over a period of 24 hours and average out each amount but the problem arises when some frameworks have no official forum, which is the case for some.
