Should I start with 1.1?
  • Hi, I'm interested in trying FuelPHP for an app I'll soon be developing. There isn't a rush, and I see talk of 2.0 on the site. So, that leaves me wondering if I should jump in with 1.1 and have to upgrade (soon?), or just wait. Thoughts?
  • How long are you willing to wait? At the very earliest a 2.0 beta would be released in about 3 months, somewhere over the summer. But we don't have any hard deadlines and by far not everything has been mapped out. So unless you want to help with development of 2.0 and don't mind the frequent API changes that comes with that, there isn't a 2.0 to start with for some time. 1.1 will be here for some time to come, and the stable base to use when you start a new project at this time (http://fuelphp.com/blog/2012/02/the-road-ahead).

Thanks, I'll jump in with 1.1 and see how it goes. I use Kohana a ton, and FuelPHP doesn't seem *too* far off from it; Hopefully it won't be very difficult to pick up. Maybe once I have a decent understanding of the underlying code, I'll see how I can help with 2.0.
  • Hi the developer team, I want to translate the FuelPHP documentation into French language.
Translating V1.1 documentation or waiting for V2, I don't know. Tell me:
    - will the V2 doc provide an user guide and a reference doc as the V1.1 doc ?
    - will the V2 doc be very different from V1.1 doc ?
    - will the V2 documentation use the same CSS ?
  • In short: no, yes, no. We're working on a new community website (nicknamed Fuel Depot) which amongst other will have the code API documentation and the user documentation. This site will be used to build the documentation, which will be written in a Fuel flavor of Markdown. A task will generate the html from this markdown for those that need offline docs, but the HTML is no longer used as primary. We haven't decided if we are going to store the raw markdown in a repo too, and if we accept changes to that repo, that will depend on if we can find an easy way to import git changes and deal with conflicts (in case both the repo and the online markdown has been changed at the same time). The depot staging site can be found here: http:://fueldepot.exite.eu, but sofar only the API docs are ready.
  • OK, I'm waiting for the V2 doc.
    Thanks.
