I've posted about this before, and wanted to go back to respond to my original thread but get a 404 when clicking my own profile to search for my original post, which brings me to the topic of this post.
I know you guys are working hard, and you're doing an awesome job. Do not take this post as any sort of criticism on that part. If anything I'm trying to make sure you guys get the appreciation you deserve.
The fact is these forums are festered with bugs, profile links dont work, there are encoding issues when posting, editing or previewing RE-encodes your posts, emoticons are miss-aligned, authentication takes you to the main page rather than the page you were viewing, I could go on and on. These are all very basic bugs that you should only find in an alpha or a very early beta.
My point being that this gives people a very bad impression of your framework, even though the forums arent even made with your framework. Now for most hobbyists and people like myself that can see past this it isn't a big issue (though still very frustrating), but for any potential big customers that could really cary the framework on to the next level in terms of publicity this will be an absolute deal breaker.
I get that you guys are just trying to get the framework to a decent level at this point (1.0, can't wait!), but there are plenty of forums and all-in CMS'es out there that do a much better job of maintaining your community. Why not use one of those? I get that the CMS that runs this website is made by one of your own developers, but being in open-source you should be able to set your pride aside and actually utilize the community that you are a part of.
I am not so much frustrated by the fact that these bugs are in my way when trying to navigate the community, but much more so because they are miss-representing the framework that I am starting to love.
Again, I do not mean to criticize FuelPHP the framework, just the choice to use an incomplete CMS to represent your product.
Of course it's entirely possible you guys are fully aware of this issue and are already working on it / planning work on it, in which case feel free to disregard my post entirely.
Thank you
Incomplete CMS? Is that why PyroCMS is getting 100 installs a day and are rated as the most watch PHP CMS on GitHub?
The forums are an add-on, and one that has a few issues but there is no need to moan about the CMS it happens to use. We'll get it sorted, but we are all pretty busy.
Incomplete is the impression I'm getting from using the forums here. You're right that I should not have called PyroCMS incomplete but rather the forums.
But moaning? I'm trying to point out a flaw that in my opinion is potentially keeping FuelPHP from reaching out to a wider audience. I wouldn't say you could call my post "moaning", I backed up my arguments and respected your devs, I would appreciate the same courtesy in return.
