Because date()/DateTime::createFromString() don't support internationalization and we decided that that's more important to us. But the function does some trickery to allow a bit of string->date parsing. BTW, you could also just have checked the docs - the answer is in there as well.

On windows strtotime() is used by default (as noted quite emphatically) instead and it has its own rules: http://nl3.php.net/manual/en/function.strtotime.php Btw, your code is a bit strange in any case: you give it 'us' as the key for pattern recognition but your input isn't formatted month/day/year. Using forward slashes with strtotime() that is also the format expected, but you're giving day/month/year.

Because of your fist question I assumed you were on Windows which is why I said strtotime() was used instead. The date in the docs is January 4th, not April 1st.

I'll update the docs with a date example that is not ambiguous.

I finally understood, in doc to speak to you of config/date.php, except this file in version 1.1 does not exist.
